Mnr Jannie Fortuin is vanaf 1 Februarie 2018 aangestel as die Munisipale Bestuurder van Karoo Hoogland Munisipaliteit.
Die Raad en personeel wens hom voorspoed toe vir sy termyn.
Mnr Fortuin was voorheen die Distriksbestuurder (Streekshoof) van die Departement van Omgewingsake en Natuurbewaring in die Namakwa Distrik. Hy was ook ‘n Raadslid en Burgemeester in die Hantam Munisipaliteit. Sy visie is om toe te sien dat
effektiewe dienslewering plaasvind en dat doodseker-gemaak word dat die Munisipaliteit binne toepaslike wetgewing funksioneer ten einde ‘n Skoon Administrasie te bewerkstellig.
Die Munisipale Bestuurder het alreeds vergaderings met die personeel van Williston en Sutherland gehou en sal binekort ook Fraserburg se personeel besoek.
Mnr JJ Fortuin wil ook graag van die geleentheid gebruik maak om aan die gemeenskap bekend te maak dat as gevolg van die goeie spandering op huidige Munisipale Infrastruktuur Projekte, is ‘n ekstra R6 miljoen toegeken aan die Munisipaliteit om voor 30 Junie 2018 te spandeer op die twee Sutherland projekte nl. “Sutherland Bulk Water Network” en die “Sutherland Sport Facility”.
Die Raad van Karoo Hoogland Munisipaliteit se volgende vergadering sal op 27 Februarie 2018 plaasvind te Fraserburg, waar die Aansuiweringsbegroting van 2017/2018 voorgehou en goedgekeur sal word. Die Konsep Begroting vir 2018/2019 word steeds hard aan gewerk en sal op 28 Maart 2018 aan die Raad voorgehou word. Vanaf 17 – 19 April 2018 sal die Konsep GOP en Begroting ook aan die Gemeenskap voorgehou word.
Die Jaarverslag van 2016/2017 gesamentlik met die Finansiële State asook die Ouditeur Generaal se Verslag vir 2016/2017 is beskikbaar op die munisipale webblad by www.karoohoogland.gov.za

The Municipality are also in the process of developing a Newsletter and are also planning to release a quarterly newsletter.

The advertisement for the vacancy for the Municipal Manager Position was re-advertised during September 2017 and closed 28 September 2017. Die afgelope twee finansiële jare het die munisipaliteit se oudit opinie verbeter van “disclaimers” na ’n Gekwalifiseerde Oudit Opinie. Die aantal kwalifikasies het verminder vanaf 18 kwalifikasies in 2013/2014 na slegs 2 kwalifikasies in 2015/2016 wat bates en beleggingseiendom is.
Karoo Hoogland Munisipaliteit het ’n toekenning ontvang vir die munisipaliteit wat die meeste verbetering getoon het in die 2014/2015 Finansiële jaar in terme van munisipale oudit. Karoo Hoogland Munisipaliteit het ook ’n toekenning ontvang vir “Clean Administration”. Die toekennings word uitgereik deur IMFO (Chartered Institute of Municipal (Government) Finance Audit & Risk Officers).
Die Firma wat die beplanning van die 150 erwe in Williston doen hou ‘n gemeenskapsvergadering. Almal word uitgenooi om te gaan luister en hul insette te lewer:

Hiermee bedank die Munisipale Bestuurder graag die personeel wat bygedrae het tot die erkenning wat ontvang is en moedig graag die personeel van Karoo Hoogland Munisipaliteit aan om voort te bou op die goeie diens wat hul lewer en werksaamhede wat hul verrig. Heelwat toeriste het al die munispaliteit gekontak oor die skoon dorpe en spesiale dank word gegee aan die personeel van die Infrastruktuur departement .
Hiermee wil die Raad van Karoo Hoogland Munisipaliteit die gemeenskap ’n geseënde 2017 toewens.
Die publikasie van Karoo Hoogland Sterresepte en Kontreistories asook die Historiese staproetekaarte van Williston, Fraserburg en Sutherland, destyds saamgestel in samewerking met Me Elna Marais, is deur die Erfnisstigting in hul biblioteek opgeneem. Dit is beslis van kulturele en geskiedkundige waarde en hiermee bedank Karoo Hoogland Munisipaliteit diegene wat by die samestelling betrokke was, onder ander Me Elna Marais wat in 2011 afgetree het as Museum Kurator van Karoo Hoogland Munisipaliteit.
Die Verordeninge oor die Aanhou van Honde is 7 November 2016 in die Staatskoerant afgekondig. Dit is effektief vanaf 1 Desember 2016. ’n Wetstoepassingsbeampte is aangestel en mag nou amptelik boetes uitreik aan oortreders van hierdie verordening. Vergewis u asseblief van die inhoud van die Verordening en dat u skriftelik toestemming moet bekom by die munisipaliteit wanneer u meer as 2 honde aanhou. Die volgende verordeninge wat afgekondig sal word in die komende maand is die aanhou van alle diere in die dorpe. Dit was reeds ge-adverteer in 2016 en insette is ontvang en veranderinge is aangebring aan die beleid. Sien die By-Law onder die Policies & By-Law blad.
Die gemeenskap word versoek om hul te vergewis van die noodnommers wat hul moet kontak wanneer brande ontstaan sodat vinnig opgetree kan word.
Inwoners van Williston word weer versoek om water spaarsamig te gebruik as gevolg van die waterskaarste. Die hooftoevoer van die reservoir word vanaf 8nm tot 6vm afgesluit. Die besluit is tesame met die Departement Waterwese geneem. Fondse is toegeken deur die Departement Waterwese om nog twee boorgate toe te rus om die voorsiening van water aan die gemeenskap van Williston te verbeter.

Accommodation is provided in the main house called The Velvet Olive, a cottage called De Oude Waenhuys, and 3 guest rooms. The guest rooms can accommodate 2 or 3 guests each. These guest rooms feature tea- and coffee-making facilities, and electric blankets.
The Velvet Olive offers 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. There is a lounge with a fireplace, an open-plan kitchen and dining room with a wood stove. The kitchen is equipped with an electric stove, microwave, fridge and indoor braai.
De Oude Waenhuys is a beautifully restored cottage with an open-plan bedroom and lounge area with a fireplace as well as a kitchen. The bathroom is fitted with a bath and a separate toilet. The bath has a handheld shower piece.
Warm blankets are provided for those cold winter nights and guests are welcome to make use of the fireplaces an d heaters. The Velvet Olive is equipped with an indoor braai. The outdoor braai areas are excellent for stargazing and social gatherings.

Blesfontein (South 32º28.077’ , East 20º26.160’) is situated 28 km South West of Sutherland in the Northern Cape. About 5 km from the homestead is the escarpment of the Roggeveld mountains. When you stand at the picnic site on the edge, you will have a breath taking view of the Tanqua valley and Cedar Bergs in the distance.
On Blesfontein you may see Blesbok, Springbok, Duiker, Steenbok, Grey Rheebuck, Zebra and Black Wildebeest.
Several smaller species like the African Wild cat, Lynx, Mongoose, Porcupine, Black back jackal, Suricate, Rock rabbit (Dassie) and the Skunk occur on the farm. We have seen more than 30 bird species and several reptiles.
The tame farmyard animals are harmless and friendly. Although all the animals are fed regularly you are allowed to feed them at any time of the day.

The Artist Cottage is one of the oldest houses in town. The cottage is a typical Karoo-style building that has been renovated with modern flare, whilst staying true to its original style. The cottage is a self-catering facility, with 2 bedrooms and 2 full bathrooms, and comfortably sleeps four, but can accommodate up to 5 people.
Downstairs consists of an en-suite, double bedroom; an open-plan dining area; fully equipped kitchen and very large fireplace to keep you warm. Location: S32 34 00.5 E20 40 57.3 Gunsfontein is situated next to route R354 between Matjiesfontein and Sutherland at the top of the Verlatekloof pass. 96 km from Matjiesfontein the road sign indicates Klein Roggeveld. Follow the well maintained wide gravel road for 7km, you are then on Gunsfontein Guest Farm. From this turn off Sutherland is 15km further on the tar road.

Activities: A scenic 4×4 mountain pass (difficulty level 2-3). This route will not damage your vehicle and women will enjoy it as well. ±80km of farm roads. Most of these are suitable for 4×2 vehicles. Paths in the veld can also be used as HIKING TRAILS. All roads are suitable for MOUNTAIN BIKING STARGAZING: Sutherland is 22km away (12mins).

Andromeda is named after a constellation in the northern sky. The constellation’s name is derived from a princess in the Greek legend of Perseus.
Andromeda is a large family home, simple but tastefully decorated. The house consists of 2 bedrooms and an extra flatlet room, with its own bathroom and kitchen.
In total, there are two double rooms (en-suite) and a twin room and an additional bathroom. The house also has two single beds in the living room in order to sleep an additional two people.
The house is fully equipped for self-catering, with a built-in braai in the kitchen, as well as an outside portable braai available.

A true Karoo experience
Tankwa Guest Farm lies in the heart of the Tankwa Karoo. We are situated 155km from Ceres and 91km from Sutherland, only 2km from the entrance of the Tankwa National Park and 15km from the Park’s Head Offices.
The guest farm offers a luxurious large house for groups, with all you need for self-catering. The farm house has elegantly furnished rooms, with crisp, white linen, decorated in earthy colours to compliment our natural setting. We have solar power to make your stay even more comfortable. Our house sleeps a maximum of fifteen people, with four rooms (one en-suite and an extra bathroom for the rest of the family/group). The house can be divided in two for separate groups or two families. The first halve has a room with a double and single bed, en-suite bathroom and a living area with two sleeper couches. The other halve has two double beds (each in their own room) a room with two single beds, a sleeper couch in the living area and a bathroom to share. Both sections have fully equipped kitchens with gas facilities, so all you have to bring is food.
Tankwa guest farm is situated near the entrance of the Tankwa National Park, offering you the chance to explore the park and for your convenience, we will assist with day passes into the park. The park and farm are situated in the Succulent Karoo Biome and is famous for its rare and endemic plant species, variety of birdlife and scenic landscapes.
If you’d prefer not to venture out too far, the farm also offers enough to explore, for short hikes, bicycle rides or even just a relaxing day spent on the large family stoep, the farm has something for everyone in the family. At night, enjoy a braai in the boma under the starry Karoo nightsky.

Die plaas Kanariesfontein is 3 en n half uur se ry vanaf Kaapstad. Dit is gelee 36km wes vanaf Sutherland op die Bo-Visrivier pad en op die eskarp by Oubergpas. Dit is een en n half uur se ry vanaf dieTanqua Nasionale park en een uur vanaf die Sterrewag (SALT).
Die omgewing is van die mooiste in die distrik. Skoon water, vars lug en volop stilte is gewaarborg. In die lente hoef jy nie verder as Kanariesfontein te ry om te gaan blomme kyk nie. Dis ‘n verruklike gesig wat jou begroet as jy die plaas binne ry teen die lang hoogte af. Jy kan stap of fietsry in die natuurskoon. n Pad al op die eskarp van die Roggeveldsberge, wat uiters geskik is vir Quads en 4 x 4 voertuie, verleen n asemrowende uitsig oor die hele Tanqua Karoo tot sover as die Sederberge, asook Matroosberg. Ook vir 4 x 4 hardebaarde is daar ‘n roete oor die aangrensende plaas Krantzkraal. Hier is n ryk voellewe op die damme, volop wild asook 4 soorte skilpaaie.
Vlieghengel van forel en swartbaars kan op n “catch en release” basis geniet word. Wilderog wat as uitgewis beskou word,kom nog in redelike stande hier voor.
Twee volledig toegeruste, selfsorg gastehuise, sonder TV, bied slaapplek vir 4 mense – ‘n dubbelbed en 2 enkelbeddens. Albei huisies is toegerus met n kaggel.

Velvet Olive 1881 bestaan uit ‘n hoofhuis en kothuis.Die huis en kothuis is ten volle toegerus. Die hoofhuis het 3 slaapkamers(een en suite). Die huis is geleë langs ‘n gewilde restaurant vir die wat eie kosmaak wil vryspring. Die kothuis is privaat met eie geriewe. Kom geniet ‘n heerlike Karoo kuier in een van Sutherland se oudste huise.
